Global Experiences
Hawaa: While the program was intended for college students, I attended these meetings with my cousin at the age of 15 in Alexandria, Egypt. It was then that I realized that I not only wanted to be linguistically involved for my future career, but also culturally and politically. I enjoyed the discussions of various cultural similarities and differences, which even included the large problems that certain countries may face today, including gender inequality.
Riverglades Elementary School Volunteering: Not only did I have the fortunate luck of helping a teacher guide the minds of our future, but I also had the pleasure of teaching my little brother as well. His class was filled with eager children who always presented upmost excitement when taught concepts such as how to read. Although I had experience as a tutor prior to this, I had never taught an age group this young, and doing so taught me patience and understanding.
Global Living Learning Community: This was most certainly an unforgettable experience. For the entirety of my junior year, I lived with a handful of likeminded individuals who truly desired to make a change. Together, we all spent the year analyzing various cultures, trying to educate ourselves on these numerous topics. My favorite part was gathering into groups, being assigned a region in the world, and presenting about said region, along with cooking and baking so many delightful foods from these cultures.
